I love making baby gifts. This baby quilt for a friend is nearly done after only about 5 hours of work. I'm not loving the machine quilting so I may take the seam ripper to it, but other than that, I'm loving it. All I've got left is the binding. I have to confess, one of the reasons this project has progressed so quickly is because I found a bag of fabric that I'd already cut into squares. I barely remember cutting this fabric, but I can tell I scraped it because I wasn't loving the way the fabric choices looked together. I think I've now got a combination here that works. It doesn't exactly say "baby" but it is rather cheerful. I love the little bird at the center and the little butterflies on the purple squares.
I'd originally planned to make a sweater for my friend Rebecca's baby, but she's a vegan and I was using Rowan Denim along with some very pretty Koigu to knit the sweater. Sauniell, who isn't a vegan but has encountered many knitters who knit for vegans, convinced me that the baby would never wear the sweater because of the wool content. So the sweater will be saved for another baby. I don't even mind scrapping the sweater because I'm getting my quilting mojo back. Perhaps this will inspire me to dig out the other gigantic quilt I started on Thanksgiving 2003.
